About Devon
Devon is devoted to helping people uncover the root causes that lead to illness, connect with the wisdom and innate healing intelligence of their body-mind, and become active participants in their wellbeing.
She currently has three practices:
A private embodied psychotherapy practice emphasizing somatic therapy, mindfulness and IFS,
A psychedelic-assisted therapy practice at CMAT: Centre for Medicine Assisted Therapy Vancouver with ketamine and (with Health Canada approval) psilocybin and MDMA, and
A chronic pain practice at Canadian Pain and Regenerative Institute, where she uses an integrative, trauma-informed approach with MyoActivation, a needle-based method for releasing restrictions and traumas from soft tissues.
She has been certified with the Institute for Functional Medicine, and is also a certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher through UC San Diego. She is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor certified in Relational Somatic Therapy for trauma resolution, Level 1 Internal Family Systems, and is certified to deliver both MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD (MAPS USA) and ketamine-assisted therapy.
Research
Dr Christie's academic research interest is the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapies to support chronic pain recovery. She and colleagues published a landmark paper in November 2022 demonstrating the potential of MDMA-assisted therapy for chronic pain, and she is currently developing an open-label exploratory study on MDMA-assisted therapy for fibromyalgia, a widespread pain condition with no known cure.
She previously served as Co-Principal Investigator and Research Therapist on an phase-3 crossover study investigating MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD. She is also currently co-PI on a qualitative study investigating participants’ and therapists’ experiences with ketamine-assisted therapy, and as Co-Lead Therapist for two Phase 1 safety and observational studies delivering experiential and observational participation for healthy psychedelic therapist volunteers with psilocybin and MDMA, respectively.
Teaching
Dr Christie is a Clinical Instructor with UBC Medicine, and is a recognized speaker and expert on the potential for incorporating psychedelic assisted therapies in an improved health care model for the future.
She has worked with Numinus to develop and deliver a comprehensive 8-week Foundations in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy training program and additional programs in their certificate track.
She is passionate about educating her patients, fellow mindfulness providers, and future psychedelic therapists in somatic, trauma-informed skills and principles, as well as ethics, safety and touch in psychedelic-assisted therapy.
